Hilton at St. George’s Park is set amidst 330 acres of rolling countryside and forms part of the FA’s national football centre which was opened by Prince William in 2012. It is home for all 24 England teams and provides a centre for the development of English football. The hotel opened in August 2013 and offers a tranquil setting and stunning architecture for guests ranging from professional footballers to visiting families, conference delegates and wedding guests – in fact anyone looking for a unique venue, but with all the great facilities which make modern life easier.

St. George’s Park sits on the former site of the Byrkley Park Estate, once a hunting ground for wild boar and fallow deer owned by the Berkeley family. According to Burton upon Trent Local History group Byrkley Park was the only country estate to breed pure white rabbits which were released in large numbers into the grounds.

More recently the estate was home to Hamar Bass of the Bass brewery family who built Byrkley Lodge, which was demolished in 1952, a model of which can be seen at Byrkley Park Garden Centre.

Traces of this beautiful former country estate can still be seen

around Hilton St. George’s Park today, with English landscape architect Capability Brown influencing the design around the lake area and there are traces of the former rose garden wall close to the hotel, while the stables of Hamar Bass are believed to have been located close to where the outdoor leadership centre is situated today.

More information about the world-renowned Bass family and their role in building Burton’s brewing reputation can be found at the nearby National Brewery Centre Museum. Located just six miles from our hotel, the centre also offers a chance for visitors to sample some of the great local ales which are brewed on-site.
